Things that go bump in the night.

First off i want to say sorry it's been a while since my last post. I've been a busy girl. Places to go, people to see and my Nan and Grandad's 50th wedding anniversary to celebrate. Can you believe that, 50 years? I look at them and when i see that, despite many hard times, after 50 long years together they are still madly in love, it makes me believe that true love really does exist. Its little things about them that make me smile and wish for what they have. Like the fact that my Grandad writes 'From Your Bill' in his cards to my Nan and that in every card he gives her he makes a love heart out of kisses. But anyway enough of romantic notions, onto what i came here to write...

So, i think that it's about time that i admit to my absolute love for the television programme 'Supernatural'. And when i say absolute, i mean total, unabashed, wholehearted, totally geeky and pathetic love. When it was orginally aired on television, i only ever watched a few episodes here and there and never particularly thought anything of it. Over here in the UK, although it's really popular, it seems to be a cult thing. Something that a LOT of people love but that without specifically asking, you'd never guess people even knew it existed. However, i have a habit of buying dvds a lot. They tend to be films as apposed to tv series but one day when i was looking for my next bargain dvd film discovery, i came across the first season of 'Supernatural'. Having found no films that caught my eye, i took a risk and bought the first season having never realy watched it. And to put it simply, i fell in love.

I can't explain one specific thing that makes me love it. It's the whole damn package. It's Sam and Dean's realtionship, the supernatural elements, the Impala, the soundtrack, the fact that each episode stands alone but a main story line runs throughout. I seriously love everything about this programme. Having finished the first series, i have, as they have been released on dvd (as i don't have the tv channel that airs them), worked my way through to the end of series 5. This is a programme that, despite having lots of criticism, is to me one of the best made programmes in history. There are very few programmes, in my opinion, that can make a person laugh, cry, angry, scared, happy, worried etc during just one episode. As silly as it sounds, i fell in love with the characters. They're characters that i can relate to. They're not unreachable, hollywood characters, they are characters that remind me of my friend/dad/brother/boyfriend.

Of course i'm not so silly as to try and deny the fact that both Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) extreme handsomeness help somewhat to my enjoyment of the show. I've definately changed my mind about which i prefer though. Season 1 i was a Jared fan. His sweeping hair and youthful looks caught my eye. But then we get to season 2 and i realised hold on, hold on, Jensen is actually one of the most handsome men i believe i have ever seen. It's the stubble and the moody eyes. I just can't resist =) I have also fallen in love with the car they drive in the show. Yes, i said car. But this car is a very beautiful, verrrrrry nice car. Just take a look below and tell me i'm wrong.

Anyway, i just thought i'd share my love of the show with you now so that any reference or quote etc that i make at a later date will not seem so random. And also with the hope that you will take a look at the show and come to love it like i have because it truly is a great programme.

Until next time =)

'Let the right one in' [2008]

My older brother likes to suggest films [bands, books etc] to me that he thinks i might like, or that he has loved and therefore wants to share with me. I think he sees it as his way of 'imparting wisdom and knowledge'. About six months ago he suggested 'Let the right one in' [2008]. Knowing that is was a Swedish film and subtitled, i was put off slightly. Its not that i'm lazy and can't be bothered to read the subtitles at the same time as watching the film, its simply that i've watched very few subtitled films in my life and therefore they're unchartered territory to me. However, having listened to him rave about the film for months beforehand, i decided i should at least try and watch it. And, although i haven't yet, i really should thank my brother because in this film i would go as far as saying i have found one of my favourite films of all time.

Yes, this is a 'horror' film but it is also so many more things than that. For those of you who haven't seen it, it centres around Oskar, a young boy who having been bullied most of his life, finds comfort in his new and somewhat unusual neighbour, Eli. I won't say anymore because i truly don't want to ruin it for anyone, but it'd suffice to say that what follows is a beautiful, touching and, at points, quite disturbing story. I loved this film so much i couldn't bare to not own a copy of it myself and i would suggest to everyone that you watch this, even if after watching it you decide you don't like it, because i believe that anyone and everyone will agree that love it or hate it, director Tomas Alfredson has created a modern masterpiece [although as i truly adore this film i may be somewhat bias].

As far as the recent American remake 'Let me in' [2010] is concerned, i'm yet to see it but i'll say to you what reviewers have been saying. For those who have seen the original, the remake is a good film. For those who haven't, the remake is a fantastic film. I shall be watching it at some point, but i'll let you decide which is better.

Until next time =)

New Kid On The Block

So i'm new to this whole blogging thing...I've attempted it a few times before & it's never come to anything. I suppose it's because i've never really wanted to blog. But this times different. I've got some spare time on my hands & lots of thoughts, rants, feelings & musings going round my mind than need a place to be vented & this is it. My 'About Me' shows that my passions are a plenty & so this blog is likely to skip from one to the other. I'm hoping that after a while i'll find my stride & realise that one passion in particular is the passion, until then please forgive the randomness of my posts. I really want to hear feedback from everyone on what you think of my blog & i'd love any suggestions about things you think i'd like. Until next time =)
